The Skin Rejuvenation Process

During treatment, there will be a bright flash of light from the Lumecca handheld unit into the skin and the sensation of a light snap like that from a rubber band. Most of our patients report little to no pain. After your treatment, redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal and usually subside after one hour. Over the next 24-48 hours you may see a darkening of the pigmented spots and then over the course of the next week, the pigmented lesions will flake off, resulting in clear, radiant skin with a uniform tone. When treating vascular lesions you may see the veins change color slightly and then dissipate over the next few days.

How Many Treatment Sessions Are Required?

The number of treatments required depends on the severity of your skin damage, your skin type, the type of treatment being received, and the power setting of the IPL. Most patients will see significant improvement after just one session and will find that multiple photo facial sessions provide even more improvement.

What Preparation Should be Taken Before Treatment?

1. Avoid UV/Sun Exposure - One month prior to your hair removal treatment please avoid exposure to UV rays from the sun, tanning beds, and even the use of self-tanners. Any kind of sunburn can lead to skin discoloration, blistering, and increased pain. Be sure to use sunscreen daily if the treated areas can’t be covered while outside.
2. Remove All Makeup and Skin Products - The ingredients in beauty products can sometimes affect the results of skin renewal and should be removed prior to each of your treatments. This includes deodorant, makeup, lotions, ointments, and anything else applied topically to the area. Immediately before your appointment, take a shower and clean the area thoroughly. Simply use soap and water to cleanse the skin that will be treated. Your skin should be clean, dry, and free of all products at the time of treatment.

How Long Does A Lummeca Treatment Last? Are the Results Permanent?

The results from IPL laser treatment are permanent however it is important to note that additional sun exposure and hormonal changes can cause new spots or skin conditions to develop. New spots can be quickly and easily treated before they develop into something more severe.

Are There Any Side-Effects to Laser Skin Rejuvenation?

Most patients do not experience any side effects from the treatment and skin reaction usually resolves within just a few hours. Some patients do find they are sensitive to sunlight after treatment, so it is recommended to avoid direct sunlight and tanning.
